single-crystal diamond rough
Feedstock blocks from MPCVD-grown single-crystal diamond after initial cut separation—the starting material for further processing into substrates, optical windows, electronic-grade functional materials, and more.
Product overview
Single-crystal diamond rough is feedstock block obtained after MPCVD (microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition) growth and initial cut separation, before polishing or cutting to standard substrate sizes.
This form is mainly for customers with in-house cutting and polishing capability, or for applications that require custom processing at the rough stage (e.g., specific crystal-orientation cutting or non-standard thickness slicing). After cutting and polishing, the product can be further processed into standard "single-crystal diamond" substrates (plate/circular), copper-metallized diamond, and other downstream products.
Crystal grade classification
The following crystal grades are available; specific grading criteria and inspection metrics can be provided on request:
| Grade | What this grade is for |
|---|---|
| Optical grade | For uses that need high optical transmittance and optical uniformity. It can be processed further into optical windows and similar optical materials. |
| Electronic grade | For semiconductor and electronic-device uses that need higher crystal purity and lower defect density. |
| Industrial grade | For tools, structural parts, and other industrial uses where optical or electronic performance is less demanding. |
| Jewelry grade | For gem and consumer diamond grading (clarity, color, cut, and similar). The criteria differ from the industrial rough grades above. |
Form / size / thickness / delivery specification
Standard sizes (plan-view dimensions)
| Item | Spec | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Delivery condition | Initial cut separation completed | Delivered as blocks after initial separation—not as-grown and not polished finished parts |
| Standard sizes (plan-view dimensions) | 7×7mm,8×8mm,10×10mm,15×15mm,20×20mm,25×25mm | Company standard specs; other sizes available on request |
| Thickness | 1–15mm | Company standard thickness range, thicker than polished finished substrates to leave material allowance for subsequent cutting |
| Deliverable quantity per lot | 69 / 85 / 650 pcs | Depends on the growth run and cutting configuration; specific quantities can be confirmed via technical inquiry |
| Crystal orientation | Available on request | Growth orientation is fixed during growth; rough is delivered as blocks, so the final working-face orientation depends on subsequent cutting. Common industry orientations are (100), (110), and (111); specific orientation can be confirmed by orientation testing |

Secondary processing directions
Custom cutting (orientation, thickness slicing), polishing, and other secondary processing available; scope confirmed against capacity and requirements.
After cutting and polishing, can be further processed into standard "single-crystal diamond" substrates (plate/circular), copper-/aluminum-metallized diamond, and other downstream functional materials.
For specific crystal orientation, purity grade, or surface finishing, submit requirements via technical inquiry for R&D feasibility assessment.
Application fields
For customers with in-house cutting/polishing capability, for secondary processing into custom substrates or functional parts
Feedstock materials platform for optical windows, electronic-grade functional materials, and other downstream products
Base sample source for materials evaluation, process development, and frontier R&D scenarios
Jewelry-grade rough: some customers buy rough and complete subsequent cutting, polishing, and jewelry-grade processing themselves, without relying on finished consumer diamonds from us
Jewelry-grade rough is evaluated under gemological criteria (clarity, color, cut, etc.) that differ from the industrial materials grading used for optical-/electronic-/industrial-grade rough. Specific grading bases can be provided on request.
